History of Centenary Methodist Church

The idea of Centenary Methodist Church dates back to 1948, when Bishop J.W. Pickett envisioned the need for a Methodist place of worship in Delhi. The foundation stone was finally laid in 1956, supported by a massive fundraising campaign.

  • Local contributions raised INR 50,000, which was about 10% of the total cost.
  • The remaining 90% funding was provided by the Board of Missions, Methodist Church, New York.
  • In May 1959, construction began on a 1.27-acre plot, and within 18 months, the church was completed and opened to the public.
Over time, the church developed into a vibrant community with strong social initiatives and spiritual teachings.
