History of Naggar Castle, Himachal Pradesh

Naggar Castle was constructed by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu around the 15th century. For many years, it served as the official residence of the Kullu royal family.

During British rule, the castle was taken over by English officials, who made several structural changes including:

  • Addition of fireplaces
  • Installation of chimneys
  • Construction of a new staircase
  • Architectural enhancements inspired by European design

These modifications transformed the castle into a harmonious fusion of Himachali and Western architecture, which adds to its uniqueness even today.
