History of Dastageer Sahab
The origin of Dastageer Sahab dates back to the early 19th century. According to Saleem Beg, chairman of INTACH Jammu & Kashmir, an Afghan traveler gifted a holy relic of Syed Abdul Qadir Jelani to the then governor, Sardar Abdullah Khan. The relic was entrusted to Syed Buzargh Shah, a prominent Sufi of the Qadri order.
The first shrine at Khanyar was constructed in 1806 to house the relic, and it became the site for religious gatherings and public display of the holy items during festivals. Later, in 1877, the shrine was expanded by Khwaja Sanaullah Shawl to accommodate the growing number of devotees. Over the centuries, it has become an epitome of Kashmiri Sufi architecture, attracting devotees for its spiritual aura, ornate interiors, and cultural significance.
