The Legend of the Thlen Serpent
The name Dainthlen comes from the story of a monstrous snake, "Thlen", that terrorized the local people. It lived in a cave near the current falls. The locals, in a bold move of resistance, killed the Thlen using traditional tools, and its blood is said to have flowed where the waterfall now gushes.
Even today, Khasi communities associate this site with bravery and resistance against evil forces.
