Located in Gandhi Nagar, Suraj Kund is also one of the oldest parks in the city and it has a mythological connection as well. As per the beliefs, it is the place where Lord Krishna was gifted the Kawatch (armor) of Karna. This is the reason that it is also touted as one of the sacred tourist places in Meerut. The park also houses a historical pond, which was built by a merchant Lawar Jawahar Lala in the year 1714.

Fairs and Melas at Suraj Kund

Suraj Kund is also a site for the number of fairs and melas that take place during the festival times of Holi and Dusherra.
Suraj Kund Mela is organized every year during Dusherra with great grandeur and show. The effigy of Ravana is burnt down symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Various amusement rides and stalls are organized during the fair.
Nauchandi Fair is one of the popular fairs that are held here in Meerut during the weeks following the festival of Holi. It is commemorated to Goddess Chandi whose temple is also present in the vicinity of Suraj Kund.
