Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary

One of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in India, Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary covering an area of 140.30 sq km is located in Naharlagun, Itanagar, the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh. The wildlife sanctuary shares a border with Pam River in the East, Pachin in the South, Neorochi in the North East, and Chingke Stream in the North.

The sanctuary is home to species like tigers, deer, leopards, and elephants. Further adding to its beauty are a good variety of Orchids. The Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a good number of hornbills species but due to constant human interference, their habitation has been reduced to a great extent.

Earlier, they were easy to spot but now they are only visible in the eastern and northern parts of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is also known for its vegetation too, which is classified as tropical semi-evergreen and wet evergreen.

Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary is a prominent wildlife reserve for sightseeing where you can spot species like Sambar, Barking Deer, Elephant Herbs, Tiger, and Panthers. Also, here one can spot the state's national bird - Hornbill. Apart from the sanctuary, the prominent destinations here to visit Zoological Park, Ganga Lake, the Ita Fort, the State Museum, and the State Forest Research Institute.
