Kedarnath Temple Will Reopen for Devotees on 6th May 2022

Your wait for the most sacred Char Dham Himalayan pilgrimage tour is over. Kedarnath Temple Will open for Devotees on 6th May 2022. The opening date for Kedarnath Temple in 2022 is announced after the performance of the rituals during Maha Shivratri at Omkareshwar temple Ukhimath, in the presence of Badri-Kedar Mandir Samiti and the priests of Kedarnath Temple. The opening date for the holy Kedarnath Dham Temple is 6th May 2022 for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra 2022.

The date for the opening of the Badrinath temple is 8th May 2022. The dates of the other two shrines of Chardham temples, Gangotri & Yamunotri Dham, will be on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya on 3rd May 2022.

Brief Introduction of Shri Kedarnath Temple

Not far from the Gaurikund, at an altitude of 3,581m, in between the lofty mountain peaks in the Mandakini valley lays one of the CharDhams - the divine Shri Kedarnath Temple. More than 1000 years old, one of the 12 Jyotirlinga mingles with the water of Mandakini and the efficacy of the Himalayan setting.

This sacred temple is made of giant stone slabs over a rectangular platform. Pilgrims from all over the world come here not just to see Lord Shiva but also in some sense seek a journey to attain Moksha.

This landscape is a combination of natural beauty and divine power. Snow stands still in pride like a crown at the top of the mountain peaks, small villages, glaciers behind the temple add color and contrast to the ambiance of this divine sacred place.

It can be considered one of the sights of a lifetime for tourists and pilgrims. It is one of the most sacred Hindu shrines.

How to Reach Kedarnath?

Located in Garhwal Himalayas, the temple can be easily accessed from all parts of the country. The base camp is in Gaurikund.

  • By Air: The nearest airport to Gaurikund is in Dehradun, which is roughly 255 km away. From the airport, you can take a taxi to reach here.
  • By Train: The nearest railway station to Gaurikund is in Haridwar, which is 205 km away. You can take a taxi from the railway station to reach there.
  • By Road: You can easily reach Kedarnath by road. Gaurikund can be easily accessible via public and private transport.

Permits for Kedarnath Yatra

Last Year the government limited the number of pilgrims visiting Char Dhams due to Covid. But this year in 2022 there would be no restrictions. You would still need a general permit to visit Kedarnath Yatra but there will be no limitations on the visiting capacity of the pilgrims. You can obtain permits online or through various registration counters. The counters are available at the railway station; bus stops near Kedarnath. There is one counter at Rishikesh railway station, one at Haridwar, and others at bus terminals. You would need to specify the dates of your visit and you will be issued a card which you would need to show at various checkpoints. You would also need to obtain a fitness certificate from medical centers at Guptkashi and Sonprayag. They would check your blood pressure and symptoms for other past diseases. If you are fit to go, you will be issued a medical certificate, which is mandatory for visiting temple shrines.
