Adiyogi - The Source of Yoga | The Isha Yoga Center

The Isha Yoga Center situated at the foothills of Velliangiri, on the outskirts of Coimbatore, is the headquarters for Isha Foundation. Isha is a sacred space for self-transformation, where you can dedicate time to your inner growth. The center offers all four major paths of yoga – kriya (energy), gnana (knowledge), karma (action), and bhakti (devotion), drawing people from all over the world.

The Center is dedicated to fostering inner transformation and creating an established state of well-being in individuals. The large residential facility houses an active international community of brahmacharis, full-time volunteers, and visitors. Isha Yoga Center provides a supportive environment to shift to healthier lifestyles, seek a higher level of self-fulfillment, and realize your full potential.

Consecrated Space

Sadhguru is the author and designer of several unique buildings and consecrated spaces at the Isha Yoga Center. They have gained wide attention for their combination of intense sacred power with strikingly innovative eco-friendly aesthetics.

Adiyogi Alayam

Adiyogi Alayam has been consecrated and structured by Sadhguru to revive the science of classical yoga in all its glory and purity. At the core of the Alayam is the Adiyogi, a linga made of solidified mercury. The energy of this consecrated form fuels one's inner exploration of the yogic sciences.

The vibrant space of the Adiyogi Alayam supports the Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Program, a 21-week intensive program held annually in which participants from around the world are trained to teach classical Hatha Yoga. In addition, the Alayam provides a venue for introductory to advanced courses including Samyama, an 8-day silence program that enables participants to reach heightened levels of consciousness and experience explosive states of meditativeness.

Dhyanalinga

“Dhyana” in Sanskrit means meditation and “linga” means the form. Dhyanalinga is a profound meditative space that does not subscribe to any particular belief or faith and requires no ritual, prayer, or worship. A powerful and unique energy form, Dhyanalinga creates the possibility for every human being who comes within its sphere to experience life in its totality.

The dream of many enlightened beings, Dhyanalinga was consecrated by Sadhguru after three years of an intense process of prana pratishtha – a pure energy process wherein the energies of all seven chakras are raised to the peak and locked to prevent dissipation over time.

A doorway to enlightenment and spiritual liberation, Dhyanalinga offers a spiritual seeker the opportunity to perform spiritual practices in utmost intimacy with a live Guru, an opportunity traditionally available only to a select few.

Linga Bhairavi

“Those who earn the Grace of Bhairavi neither have to live in concern or fear of life or death, of poverty, or of failure. All that human beings consider as wellbeing will be theirs if only, they earn the Grace of Bhairavi." —Sadhguru

The Divine Feminine

Consecrated by Sadhguru through prana pratishtha, Linga Bhairavi is the ultimate manifestation of the Divine Feminine – powerful and all-encompassing. Fierce and compassionate at once, Devi nurtures her devotees, supporting all aspects of their well-being – physical, material, and most importantly, spiritual.

Spanda Hall

The architecturally distinctive Spanda Hall and Garden, a meditation hall and program facility are the venue for residential Isha Yoga programs and celebrations. The dominating feature of this space is the exquisite wall mural painting, depicting the life of the first yogi, Shiva. Measuring 140 ft x 12 ft, this masterpiece of art is the largest of its kind in the world. The style of painting, a dying art from the temple town of Guruvayur in the state of Kerala, uses only vegetable dyes and earth extracts.

“The word ‘Spanda’ means primal or primordial. The nature of the hall is such that we essentially made it for programs like Bhava Spandana. It is like a melting pot. Bhava Spandana programs happen extremely easily in the Spanda Hall because of the nature of that consecration. It is built in a certain alignment with the Dhyanalinga and Linga Bhairavi, which has a certain kind of impact and alignment.”

Theerthakunds

To increase receptivity to the energies of the Dhyanalinga, visitors can take a dip in one of the two Theerthakunds (energized water bodies) on the premises. These pools are energized by rasalingas, which Sadhguru has consecrated. The Chandrakund, for women, is consecrated with slightly feminine energy, and the Suryakund, for men, is more masculine in nature.

Taking a dip in these energized water bodies straightens out pranic imbalances, enhancing physiological and psychological well-being as well as heightening spiritual receptivity. The tremendous healing power of these waters has been attested to by thousands of visitors each year.

The Chandrakund is embedded 30 feet below the ground, and approached by a descent of thirty-two massive steps. It is framed by gigantic granite stones and vaulted by a colorful mural depicting the Mahakumbha Mela.

The Suryakund is 20 feet below ground level, contains three rasalingas, and lies underneath a stunning 20 ft brass and copper sculpture of the sun.

Adiyogi - The Source of Yoga

Over 15,000 years ago, predating all religions, Adiyogi, the first Yogi, transmitted the science of Yoga to his seven disciples, the Saptarishis. He expounded 112 ways through which human beings can transcend their limitations and reach their ultimate potential. Adiyogi’s offerings are tools for individual transformation, as individual transformation is the only way to transform the world. His fundamental message is that “it is the only way out” for human well-being and liberation.

On the auspicious night of Mahashivaratri at Isha Yoga Center, an iconic face of “Adiyogi – the Source of Yoga” was unveiled by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Recognized as the world's largest bust sculpture by the Guinness World Records, the face of Adiyogi is 112 feet high, representing the 112 ways he offered for one to attain well-being and one's Ultimate nature. Installed near the Adiyogi is the Yogeshwar Linga, which was consecrated by Sadhguru, as the manifestation of five of the major chakras in the human system. Adiyogi, with the presence of the Yogeshwar Linga, has become a living entity.
