Rock climbing is another popular adventure sport in Karnataka. Ramanagaram 50 km from Bangalore is a favorite destination for rock climbers. The rocks are challenging and are considered the Mecca of rock climbing. The place abounds in rock formations, which is a climber’s delight. The hill is about 3066 feet above sea level. Rocks of various shapes and sizes can be seen here. Some of them resemble a whale, a pigeon, a human being, and the three-headed Brahma.

Best Time to Visit

October to February is the peak rock-climbing season in Turahalli when the atmospheric temperature is in the range of 29ºC to 30ºC. Many Rock-Climbing enthusiasts from India as well as abroad visit Turahalli during the winter month of December as the atmospheric temperature is mild at this time. The atmospheric temperature at Turahalli is found to be in the range of 25ºC to 39ºC during December.

Sawan Durga

Savandurga is one of the challenging treks situated 60 km away from Bangalore in the Deccan plateau of Karnataka. Situated at a height of 4220 ft above sea level, it is said to be the largest monolith in Asia (a monolith is a huge single rock or stone). If seen from a distance, it looks like a massive stone. Savandurga comprises twin peaks, one is Karigudda or The Black Hill and the other is Biligudda or The White Hill. Biligudda has been a fort prison during the Hoysala Empire. On the top of the hill, one can see the ruins of the fort that were built by Kempegowda. The composition of the hill is mainly granite. A panoramic lush green view of the exteriors of Bangalore is seen from the top. The hill is surrounded by the forest region of Magadi. If lucky, one can spot beautiful migratory birds in the green horizons.

The best time to reach the peak is before the sun gets too hot to handle. So, it is good to start early. Initially, the trek may seem hard, but the ethereal view from the peak makes it worth your while. The way down the hill is relatively easier.

This region is famous for medicinal plants and shrub forest. This is a paradise for climbing enthusiasts. Climbers can scale sheer rock faces enduring up to grade 7. It is also good for a day’s trek and camping at the foothill. New Rocks: It is a paradise for rock climbers. This is situated on the way to Bannerghatta National Park.

Best time to visit

Savandurga is an all-weather place except for the monsoon season. During the summers, the weather is pleasant and suitable for outdoor activities. The winters are cool here with the temperature sometimes falling considerably low. The season of monsoon is not the time to visit, like trekking the hill becomes difficult. Summers are a good time to visit Savandurga.
